S. B. Atkins Photography, located on the north side of Indianapolis, is a studio with the atmosphere of home. Whether you choose to have a sitting in the outside garden, wander around the neighborhood for the perfect location, or shoot in the studio, the mood is always relaxed. Over the course of her twenty-five years in business, Sally B. Atkins has become known for her spontaneous, honest, straightforward style of portraiture. Sally specializes in children, yet is certainly well known for her families and high school seniors. Her intimate style and connection with her subjects have earned her a loyal clientele, national recognition, and numerous awards.

Appointments are scheduled to allow more than enough time for a shy two-year old to warm up, a tense high school senior to settle down, or a hungry baby to be fed. Most importantly her sittings are fun. In fact, most children have to be coaxed to leave!

I love what I do!

I believe that one of the most important things in human experience is to be seen... openly and without judgment. I feel accomplished when I can stay "out of the way of things" during a session and just let it happen.

I have always seen things differently than most. Born blind, I am told I started tracking light at 10 months. My guess is that once things came into view I never stopped looking... negative space fascinated me. I would point out shapes in trees as a child that others didn't see. I have been sharing this vision through my photography for 30 years.

A successful portrait is a true collaboration between artist and subject that requires trust and authenticity. I feel deeply honored when the veil comes down and a person truly shows me who they are.

Studio Policy:

  • Sittings by Appointment
  • The sitting fee is payable at the time of the sitting.
  • Proofs will be ready for viewing within two to three weeks after the sitting date. There is a $125.00 deposit per set of proofs to take them out of the studio. That deposit is credited towards your order.
  • An order must be placed within six weeks of receiving the proofs or the proof deposit becomes non-refundable. An order appointment will be scheduled with Sally in the studio. Any questions about cropping, size, framing, etc. will be addressed at that time.
  • One half of the balance due is required to process your order.
  • All prints are custom, hand printed, hand lacquered photographs. It takes time to do it right. Most orders will be completed within six weeks. Art work, hand tinted black and white, and larger size prints will take longer. Holiday schedules may vary.
  • The balance is due at the time the order is picked up.
  • Wallet Prints and Proofs may be purchased only in addition to a custom print order.
  • Proofs may be purchased seperately at $12.00/each
